Ekaterina Tolstaya
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My first area of interest is research. I am currently working at the MEMS, Sensors, and Actuators laboratory on campus under the mentorship of Dr. Ghodssi. I am very interested in fabrication techniques for electronics and electrical components and I am gaining invaluable experience through the hands on research experience.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

I am very interested in working on a service project abroad for the second stage of the program. I have not decided on a specific project and am still looking for the right opportunity.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am a brother of the Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity and a member of IEEE.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

I decided to major in Electrical Engineering after I took apart and put together my iPhone. It was amazing to see all the carefully engineered components that work together and compose the final product. Since then, I’ve learned Arduino C and regularly spend time playing around and seeing what I can make out of spare motors, LEDs, and sensors.
