Hurn, Brandon

Brandon Hurn
Major:
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

I am doing instruction because I’ve always had a strong passion for teaching and decided that this was the best way to spend my time while getting acquainted with the program and its requirements. I enjoy helping others learn and believe teaching something leads to a deeper understanding on my own end.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

I will be doing entrepreneurship because after graduation, I intend to go into the industry to work towards developing new and exciting technologies. The best way to learn how to be creative and innovative is to have experience with entrepreneurship, so I figured who better to learn this skill from than the RISE program.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

Currently, I am involved in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers as the Vice President of Corporate Relations. I am also a member of the Chem-E-Car team, a project that builds a car that runs off of chemical reactions. I also play intramural soccer and play the bass in a music group.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

My cool engineering experience happened while being a part of the Chem-E-Car team. It’s one thing to learn about chemical kinetics or batteries in class, or to build a simple contraption with your hands. But to combine aspects of chemical engineering with structural design is a challenging but rewarding experience, and now I can say I made a car!
