Hagen, William

William Hagen
Mechanical Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

Instruction; I plan to continue my work as a Thermodynamics Undergraduate Teaching Fellow. This position allows me to continue pursuing my interests in Thermodynamics and hopefully help fellow students reach the level of passion I hold for the subject.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

Service or Research; I enjoy teaching others engineering principles and helping them understand the subtleties and complexities of analyzing and solving problems. I would also love to apply myself more outside the classroom in a real-world research situation involving fluid flow and aerodynamics.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

vents chair for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; thermodynamics teaching fellow; hydrodynamics lab assistant; racquetball player.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

While working in the hydrodynamics lab, I learned how to use MATLAB to trace pixel color differences in a picture file and form an outline for an image. I could then use this outline to trace the surface of a fluid under laser lighting.
