Olulana, Faith

Major:
Bioengineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My RISE area of interest for my first year is research because I wish to have some more experience working in a lab that has a close relation to what I want to do in the future. I am interested in specializing in tissue engineering, which is why I applied to volunteer at the TEBL lab.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

For my second year I am interested in service because I have had experience tutoring and I love helping others learn. I also enjoy volunteering and giving back to the community. The AAP and ASTS programs are something I'd love to be a part of as well as engineering without borders.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

Currently, I am not affiliated with any UMD involvements or activities, but I look forward to actively participate in Women in Engineering events at UMD and SWE. As I adjust to UMD, I plan to join more academic societies like Biomedical engineering society and engineers without borders. Usually the events for these societies tend to overlap, so I believe I can manage being a part of all of them.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

My cool engineering experience was when I volunteered as a mentor on HCPSS (Howard County Public School System) Women in Engineering day, for 9th to 10th grade girls in Project Lead the Way. Sharing my enthusiasm and passion for engineering to encourage these aspiring female engineers and working with the organizers and other mentors to help the event proceed smoothly was a great experience.
