Hobgood, Amanda

Aerospace Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My area of interest for my first year is research because throughout Aerospace Engineering Honors and Engineering Honors I also need to do research so I’d like to start on a project as soon as possible. I also decided to volunteer at the Neutral Buoyancy Tank and I think that a research project will help me fully delve into a meaningful project there.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

My area of interest for my second year is instruction because I love being a mentor for others. I am currently a teaching fellow for a 1 credit Honors Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (EIP) course and now that I have some experience I’d Like to get more involved with being a teaching fellow for even more credits. I have a passion for EIP and for the introductory aerospace courses so I’d love the opportunity to help others through them.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am involved with scouting as an adult leader for a local Boy Scout Troop. Then I am also a part of the Lutheran Church’s Humble Walk ministry and participate in a bible study. Additionally, I play the clarinet for the university band.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

My cool engineering experience includes working at the Eaton Aerospace Corporation this past summer as an engineering intern. I worked in the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul department where I got to reverse engineer airplane parts with a FARO arm and coordinate with others to help repair damaged airplane parts. Additionally, last year at UMD I was funded by SEEDS to perform research for a Nuclear Assistant Robotic Device project for which I did CAD, 3D printing and programming.
