Bloomer, Tonle

Major:
Electrical Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My RISE area of interest during my first year is Instruction. I’m pursuing instruction because I am a UTF for ENEE 200 - Ethics in Engineering, and I greatly enjoyed the course last semester. I now have the opportunity to engage students in discussion that can make them conscious of ethical issues surrounding new technologies.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

My RISE area of interest during my second year is Research. Over this past summer, I started working in Scarcelli’s bioengineering lab and decided I would like to pursue graduate school. To work towards that goal, I’d like to continue my research activities next year.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

Outside of academics, I am involved in the engineering honors society-Tau Beta Pi as the athletics chair. I also volunteer through the same society. As athletics chair, I organize events for the whole society designed to get people outside, active, and moving, which is something I personally am very passionate about, and was already regularly engaged in with my friends. In TBP, I can use my passion to aid the entire society.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

My cool engineering experience was designing, constructing, and programming a miniature rover in sophomore year of high school. None of the wheels we were given worked very well, so we brought some Lego wheels, sawed them out so they could fit, and hot glued them the rover. And they worked.
