Alcantara, David

Major:
Mechanical Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My first area of interest is Instruction. I have been working as a teaching fellow for the past year in ENES 221 and wanted to continue teaching but in a different course, ENME350. I only want to continue my education and eventually become an instructor, as such, I wanted to vary my experience by teaching for different courses.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

I am interested in Research for my second year to help me find my research interests. If I am to continue to graduate school I need to find something I am interested in for research.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:
  • Teaching Fellow for Electronics (ENME350)
  • Member of Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society)
  • Popping Dance Club
  • Gemstone Program, Team PRINT
  • Computer Science Minor
  • Toshiba-Westinghouse Undergraduate Research Fellow at Penn State
What is your cool engineering experience?:

A while ago I bought a set of multicolored LEDs to make a gift. This long-ago purchase came to use in an LED FIESTA. LED FIESTA PART 1: While I was taking ENES 100 I made a simple Arduino program that set six LEDs to rapidly light up in sequence. LED PART 2: Using a demux for ENME 351 I made a (still pretty simple) Arduino program that controlled eight LEDs with switches and pushbuttons.
