Deng, Rebecca

Major:
Mechanical Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

For the first year, my RISE area of interest is Instruction because education has always been a passion of mine. I've been involved with tutoring and teaching since high school, and I want to continue that for the last two years of my college years.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

My second year of interest is Research. I once did a summer internship at NIH, but I greatly deslike it. To me, it was really boring pipetting DNA samples and running PCR's everyday. But after talking with my friends, I've learned that research can actually be a fun activity. I want to give research a second chance. This time, I'm focusing on researc that is more computationally heavy rather than benchwork heavy.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am a GSS leader for the Learning Assistance Office, and I'm also the SI Chemistry leader for LSAMP (under the CMSE office). I am also involved with A.O.E.an engineering sorority.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

The coolest engineering experience I had was probably in ENES 100; I had a lot of fun working with my teammates to build something that had no guarantee of working properly. It was also the first time I ever worked on an engineering project, so doing the OSV project was really an eye-opener for me.
