Auth, Eric

Major:
Fire Protection Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My RISE area of interest during my first year is instruction. The reason I chose instruction is because I think it is beneficial to be as involved in the department as I can. I also enjoy assisting people who are having trouble or just have questions in general.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

My RISE area of interest during my second year is research. I chose research because I am considering it as a career. My first experience with research was last semester as a group in the Fire Protection department's Sophomore Research Experience. This summer I also did research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. I enjoyed both of these opportunities and am looking forward to having the chance to partake in more research.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am an active member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers student chapter at the University of Maryland. I also am a member of the Wood Stove competition team and the racquetball club.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

I would have to say my cool engineering experience was this past January (2016) when I was able to travel to Beijing, China to help with the commissioning of the fire protection systems a new annex building to the United Stated Embassy there. This opportunity was a great way to utilize what I had learned the previous summer about life safety and other fire protection systems such as fire alarms and sprinkler systems.
