Muckelbauer, Cal

Aerospace Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My first interest in instruction. The reason I choose this is because I have already been a TF for a semester and it was a rewarding and valuable experience. I would like to continue to teach students because I learn a lot from it.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

My second year area of interest will be research. I have always wanted to perform research and work on something that interest me. I have looked into the UMD engineering labs and there are a lof of innovative and interesting projects that I would like to be a part of.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

As I stated before, I am already a TF for ENES 232. I am also part of the CHI Phi fraternity where I am on the exec board.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

As a group we designed a payload to be flown at approximately 80,000 feet. In the payload we measured the stress levels of a polycarbonate material under tension. Using polarized filters we were visibly able to see the different stress levels on each part of the material. This project was a part of the University of Maryland Balloon Payload Program.
