Wildermuth, Kyle

Major:
Chemical Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

I am interested in instruction for my first year. I plan on building a career as a research professor and so a fundamental skill necessary for my success is being able to articulate and communicate my ideas and knowledge effectively (to students and colleagues). Instructing other students on a topic of my interest will be good practice for the development of this skill.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

I am interested in research for my second year. Research is my main interest and I would like to further develop my focus on a subject before committing to a full school year working in a specific lab. Additionally, I will only be a part time student my senior year and so I will have more time to concentrate on lab work.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am currently working at the Laboratory of Thermodynamic and Molecular Simulations under Dr. Klauda in the Chemical Engineering department. I collect and identify insects and make documentary films in my free time.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

My main interests are in using fundamental physics to describe biological systems. Observing a model drawn from simple physical principles accurately depict what happens in a complex and dynamic biological system is about as cool as it gets for me!
