Pascale, Maria Jean

Major:
Materials Science and Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

During my first year with RISE I would like to be involved with instruction or service. I have been heavily involved in entrepreneurship for the past two years as a member of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program and I am ready for a change. I have been a TA in the past and I love teaching, so I would like to continue whether it is an official or volunteer position.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

During my second year of RISE I would like to dedicate myself to research.I believe that I want to do research after college, and doing relevant research relevant to this prior to graduationwill show me if I really like it prior to making a commitment.I will have approximately seven months of serious research under my belt when summer 2015 ends, but it has not been directly in my area of interest.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation
  • Program Ultimate Frisbee
What is your cool engineering experience?:

Working with iron gallium nanowires at the University of Maryland.  I was responsible for preparing these magnetostrictive nanowires for tensile and compressive testing.  I devised a setup which produced consistent the alignment of the nanowires parallel to the edges of the silicon wafers, which was desirable for testing.  I was also used to SEM and MFM and presented at the AIAA YPSE conference where I earned 3rd place for undergraduate research presentations.
