Warren, Ryan Christopher

Major:
Mechanical Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

During my first year of study, my RISE area of interest will be entrepreneurship. Currently, I am working on developing iOS games and applications. I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience over the past year by studying the app market, the business of app development, and the marketing of apps. I plan on becoming involved in the startup shell, recruiting other programmers and graphic artists, and starting a small game/app development company.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

My RISE area of interest will be research during my second year of study. I have always been fascinated with fields of research such as quantum mechanics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and space travel. In my last year, I’d love to get a new perspective by actually working on the research that goes into the fields that I feel have great potential to change the world.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:
  • Tutoring math and science for a tutoring company each semester
  • Developing iOS games/applications
  • Working on a startup that hopes to change the way college students find roommates.
What is your cool engineering experience?:

I began a personal project last year, because I hoped I would learn a lot about programming, AI, and engineering in general. Essentially, I assembled a vehicular robot with simple metal hardware, a Microsoft Kinect, and an Arduino Uno. By using the Kinect internal sensor and additional sensors, the robot would be able to react autonomously to stimuli such as speech and body gestures. The project is unfinished, but I plan to work on it as I continue to learn.
