Materials Science and Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My area of interest for first year is instruction. I am fond of tutoring students and have done so informally or as part of various clubs in the past. Becoming an educator is one of my career interests, and this is a great way of pursuing that interest. Besides, I always learn new things or gain a deeper understanding of the material that I’m teaching.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

My second area of interest in the RISE program is entrepreneurship. I’ve recently been thinking about rural development through entrepreneurship and international engineering. Currently, I have no experience in entrepreneurship. My experience with RISE will help me explore this field and better equip me to further my interests in this career pathway.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am part of the following groups on campus:

  • Materials Engineering Society
  • Nepalese Student Association
  • Intramural Soccer
  • Gemstone Honors Program
  • Primannum Honor Society
  • What is your cool engineering experience?:

I’m currently working at Georgia Tech as part of a REU program. The research group I’m working with is exploring the field of semiconducting polymers. I’m working on investigating the structure of a biopolymer/semiconducting polymer blend to detect alignment of molecules for effective charge transport. It feels great to be part of a group involved in engineering a novel material which could replace some of the existing electronic materials.
