Macko, Nathaniel

Nathan Macko
Major:
Electrical Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

I am interested in performing research for my first year. I worked in some type of research lab for around six consecutive years and have found that the experience is exceptionally valuable for developing real world skills which cannot be developed in a classroom. In addition research is incredibly effective for establishing connections with professors as well as building a resume and establishing the skill set of a student. I also have previous experience in this component of RISE.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

I am interested in teaching for my second year. One of my biggest passions in life is sharing knowledge and finding effective ways to communicate my ideas to others. I have found joy in tutoring my friends and helping my peers study. I know I will sincerely enjoy teaching and I believe I will gain important skills in communication and conducting presentations.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am involved as an intern in the University of Maryland, Robotics Center headed by Dr. Gupta. I also worked as an intern at the University of Maryland Baltimore Medical Center, Lower Extremity Robotics Laboratory. I won some awards for my research in this laboratory including an award from the United States Public Health System and my research was published in an IEEE paper. So my cool engineering experience was being a high school student with a published research paper.
