Fire Protection Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

I am doing research my first year because I like the idea of using the results to further the understandings of others within the fire protection community. By taking part in the Fire Protection Sophomore Research Project last semester, I was introduced to another path I could take as an FPE post graduation. It was a great experience, and I am excited to continue exploring this path through a different research project.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

I am interested in doing instruction my second year because I enjoy tutoring younger kids, so I think I would enjoy teaching others as well. Especially because fire protection is not a well-known field of engineering, I would like to help retain current fire protection students by helping them through their classes and making connections from the classes to their professional careers.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:
  • Intramural soccer, volleyball, flag football
  • Society of Fire Protection Engineers
  • Society of Women Engineers
  • Lakeland STARs Tutor and Mentor
What is your cool engineering experience?:

One of my coolest engineering experiences was my internship with Northrop Grumman from this summer and last summer. It was a great introduction to the consulting side of fire protection engineering, and I even learned material ahead of time for my subsequent classes.
