Guo, Andrew

Electrical and Computer Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

I have been wanting to become a UTF for the ECE department ever since the beginning of my sophomore year, so I will do instruction for my first year of RISE. I have a deep interest in circuit design, so I will be a ENEE205 UTF for Dr. Chris Davis for Fall 2015. For Spring 2016, I hope to become a UTF for ENES100 because of my personal interest in building devices from the bottom up.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

Depending on my experiences in my 300-level Electrical Engineering courses, I may do Research for my second year in RISE. I may also do Entrepreneurship because of my interest in business. I am minoring in Business Analytics so I am still choosing which career path I want to go into.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am a huge basketball fan and participate in intramural basketball at UMD. My favorite team has been the Houston Rockets and my favorite player of all time is Tracy McGrady. I also am a member of the stock trading and investment club because the business world is very intriguing to me, and may be a future career path. Lastly, I am a member of the IEEE club at Maryland, which hosts events throughout the school year.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

Working at the Shock Trauma Research Center at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine was my first internship in college. Although I worked mostly with MatLab, I did get a tour of the hospital. It was amazing to see how the work done in research labs translated into helping doctors provide more efficient healthcare. Essentially, my lab used past and current patient datato predict health patterns for patients in order to assist doctors in diagnosing treatments.
