Gisriel, Matthew Stephen

Matthew Gisriel
Major:
Aerospace Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

For the first year I am interested in the Service part of R.I.S.E. I am interested in this because last semester as a part of my College Park Scholars capstone project I volunteered at a local elementary school teaching basic robotics concepts to elementary school students. I really enjoyed this experience and would be interested in doing something similar to this as a part of the R.I.S.E program. Specifically I plan on joining Engineers without Borders and Students Helping Honduras.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:
I am interested in doing research in my second year of R.I.S.E. I am interested in research because I am looking to learn more about my field of study through hands on work. I also find the research they are doing in the labs on campus to be very interesting especially at the Space Power & Propulsion Lab.
What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am not currently involved in any extracurricular activities however I am interested in joining engineers without borders as well as other clubs.

What is your cool engineering experience?:
My cool engineering experience is in high school I took a field trip to a local engineering firm. While there we were able to see all kinds of projects that they are working on which included new UAV’s. We also we given a lecture about how engineering projects start and how the project develops into the final project. I consider this my cool engineering experience because after this trip I was sure I wanted to be an engineer.
