Hiroshi Furuya
Aerospace Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My first area of interest is Research. For me being able to conduct research as an undergrad is a very important and enticing opportunity, one that I can’t pass up.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

My second area of interest is Service. I was involved in event planning and service projects since High School as part of student government, and coming into college I’ve been a member of service and outreach organizations such as Arnold Air Society and Silver Wings. It seemed like Service would be an easy fit!

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am currently the Developmental Officer for Silver Wings, a membership I’ve carried over from my ROTC days. I’m also trying to get myself involved with the hackathon scene! I’ve only been to one hackathon to date, but I’m going to at least one more in the coming months.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

Working at AEDC White Oak Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel 9 on their Global Thermal Measurement system’s optical imaging components has been very, very cool. Being able to contribute, then understanding how my contributions fit in with the “big picture” was, and is, an amazing experience.
