Ramaswamy, Meghna

Meghna Ramaswamy

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My first area of interest is research. I spent this summer working in Dr. Hsieh’s lab and found that I really enjoyed both the lab environment as well the research work. Since the research project is inherently a long-term project, I believe RISE provides me a perfect opportunity to continue my work in the lab.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

Currently, my second area of interest is Service. I have had experience as a teaching assistant, but would really like to explore service opportunities available. I am very interested in service opportunities, and look forward to a yearlong commitment to service.

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

I am currently a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honors society, and Delta Epsilon Mu, the pre-health fraternity. I am also one of the captains of Maryland Dhoom, the south-asian fusion dance team at UMD.

What is your cool engineering experience?:

My research experience in Dr. Hsieh’s lab has definitely been extremely exciting. I especially love that I have been able to work in the mechanical engineering building to make fiber optic pressure sensors. I consider this especially awesome because the research work is not limited to just tissue work, and this was the first time I was able to be a part of this background work.
