Bittner, Luke Joseph

Materials Science and Engineering

What is the RISE area of interest during your first year and why?:

My first-year RISE area of interest is Service. I have a passion for using my skills and talents to help people, and it was wonderful to discover that I could increase my existing Engineers Without Borders involvement through the RISE program.

What is the RISE area of interest during your second year and why?:

My second-year RISE area of interest is Research. The Clark School of Engineering conducts ground-breaking research, and having the opportunity to be included in those efforts as an undergrad student is incredible. I look forward to a hands-on learning experience!

What are your involvements and or extracurricular activities?:

Engineers Without Borders, Materials Engineering Society (MatES), Recovered Food CSA, Startup Shell, SEEDS Mentor

What is your cool engineering experience?:

This past summer, I worked at the University of Maryland’s Energy Research Center, where I redesigned and overhauled a crucial piece of lab equipment. During my time there, I was able to observe the research process first-hand, network with professors and graduate students, and gain a better understanding of how fundamental principles lead to polished products.
